«رله حرارتی بی متال» (Bimetallic Thermal Overload Relay) نوعی رله اضافه بار است .که برای جلوگیری از داغ شدن بیش از حد موتور الکتریکی استفاده می‌شود. استفاده از رله‌های اضافه بار، فیوزها و یا مدارشکن‌ها می‌توانند موجبات ایمن کار کردن یک موتور الکتریکی را فراهم کنند. رله اضافه بار از موتور محافظت می‌کند، در حالی که از فیوز برای محافظت از مدار استفاده می‌شود. به بیان دقیق‌تر، فیوزها و همچنین مدارشکن‌ها برای تشخیص و قطع جریان اضافه بار درون مدار در نظر گرفته می‌شوند، در حالی که رله اضافه بار جلوگیری از گرم شدن بیش از حد موتور الکتریکی به کار می‌رود. تا جایی که یک رله اضافه بار می‌تواند بدون قطع مدار شکن (بریکر) فرمان خاموش شدن موتور را صادر کند.

Some switches are used to isolate electric power. from a system, providing a visible point of isolation that can be padlocked if necessary to prevent accidental operation of a machine during maintenance, or to prevent electric shock.
